Project Title:
Backup information storage device for telephone exchanges

Client’s Name (Country):

Krasnaya Zarya, the Government of the Russian Federation

The Challenge:

The client approached AT Software with the need to develop a backup information storage device in the event of an E1 trunk failure. This device had to meet the following requirements:

  • It must be fully autonomous;
  • Remote network control must be supported through Fast Ethernet networks with the use of the SNMP protocol;
  • Continuous copying of all information in an E1 trunk over the course of six 24-hour days must be supported;
  • It must connect to the switching junction with 4 E1 (2Mb/s) trunks;
  • Full-duplex saving and reproduction of data in real time is also required.

The Solution:

This device has been implemented on an industrial PC platform with a Pentium-III processor running under Microsoft Windows 2000. It includes a PCI module for connecting to the switching junction with 4 E1 (2Mb/s) trunks. Remote network control is supported through Fast Ethernet networks with the use of the protocol SNMP. The organization of the disk memory device provides a full reserve memory of information and can continuously copy all information in an E1 trunk over the course of six 24-hour days. Embedded software can be reloaded via Ethernet, which enhances flexibility:

  • Central processor - DSP TMS320C6416 600MHz (4800 MIPS);
  • SDRAM (128 Mb) memory;
  • Module configured through a PCI-interface;
  • E1 Interface is provided for by an Infineon PEB22554 framer;
  • Embedded software implemented for specific DSP architecture.

Using the E1 module and an industrial PC we have implemented a
computer-telephony system, which allows service of up to 120
